Marinduque eyed as future motorcycle tourism site under Philippine Loop

TORRIJOS, Marinduque — Marinduque is emerging as a potential motorcycle tourism destination as the Philippine Loop Adventure Tour gains momentum nationwide. Developed in partnership with the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), the Philippine Loop is a long-distance, self-guided travel circuit designed for motorcycles, four-wheelers, and bicycles, linking provinces, cities, and coastal highways across the country.

The Philippine Loop features four editions: the 5,000-kilometer Classic Edition, the 9,000-kilometer Ultimate Edition along major coastal highways, the Pilgrimage or Panata Tour highlighting religious and heritage sites, and the Epic Edition covering six major island circuits. Participants are given one to two years to complete their chosen routes.

Interest in motorcycle tourism grew during the pandemic as motorcycles and bicycles became essential modes of transport, prompting renewed focus on rider education and road safety through training programs by both private groups and government agencies.

During the recent Philippine Motorcycle Tourism Exchange (PhilMoTex), industry stakeholders identified Marinduque as a promising motorcycle tourism site, with emerging routes in Boac, Gasan, and the Luzon Datum of 1911, the country’s geodetic center. With its island roads and scenic coastal routes, Marinduque reflects how motorcycle tourism is expanding beyond mainland destinations, despite ongoing challenges in infrastructure and road safety.

As the Philippine Loop continues to develop, destinations like Marinduque highlight the country’s growing potential as a motorcycle tourism hub in Southeast Asia. (Photo by Jomar Revale) -- Marinduquenews.com
