Melecio Jinang Go, popularly known as “Mel Go,” is a seasoned public servant, visionary entrepreneur, and staunch advocate of good governance whose life’s work has been defined by integrity, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to nation-building. As the 23rd Governor of the Province of Marinduque, he has devoted decades of service to uplifting communities and advancing transparent, accountable leadership—particularly in his beloved home province.
Educational and Early Professional Background
Born on May 23, 1954 with a strong sense of purpose and discipline, Mel Go completed his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering at Adamson University in 1970, at the age of 20. Equipped with technical expertise and a forward-looking vision for development, he ventured into entrepreneurship and founded Sargasso Construction and Development Corporation in November 1981.
Sargasso formally began operations in August 1990, undertaking a major infrastructure project involving the construction of two piers and a rock causeway for the Port of San Fernando, La Union. Under Mel Go’s leadership, the company grew into a respected builder of vital infrastructure, completing 17 docks and an international port in La Union, as well as numerous highways and bridges across Cebu, Negros, and Panay Island.
Among its landmark projects are the CAVITEX Expressway, connecting Zapote to Imus in Cavite, and the site development of the Mega-Iloilo Business Park, recognized as one of the largest and most transformative infrastructure developments in the Visayas region. These projects stand as testaments to his commitment to national development through sustainable and strategic infrastructure.
Public Service Career
Mel Go formally entered public service in 2004 when he was elected Provincial Board Member for the 1st District of Marinduque, representing Mogpog, Boac, and Gasan. During his initial three-year term, he earned widespread respect for his diligence, principled leadership, and effective representation.
In 2010, he was again elected to serve another three-year term as Provincial Board Member of the 1st District. His exemplary performance led him being twice recognized as “Marinduque’s No. 1 Board of Trustee.” In 2005, he was appointed Regional Chairman of Mimaropa Region under the Provincial Board Members League of the Philippines (PBMLP), further solidifying his role as a respected leader beyond the provincial level.
National Advocacy and Anti-Corruption Work
Driven by a deep concern for ethical governance and the rule of law, Mel Go expanded his advocacy to the national stage. In 2013, he became one of the 13 Directors of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), a position he continues to hold. Through this role, he has actively supported initiatives aimed at combating corruption and strengthening public accountability.
His dedication to recovering ill-gotten wealth and restoring integrity in government also led him to work with the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG). In addition, he was appointed Director of the MID Pasig Land Development Corporation, a government entity tasked with reclaiming and managing national assets lost to corruption.
Legacy and Commitment
Despite his accomplishments in business and national advocacy, Mel Go has remained deeply rooted in community life. His leadership as Governor is guided by a profound loyalty to the people of Marinduque and a belief that public office is a trust bestowed by the people.
For Mel Go, public service is not merely a career—it is a lifelong calling. His legacy is one of principled leadership, meaningful development, and steadfast dedication to the welfare of present and future generations of Marinduqueños.
