Kawa-Kawa Falls in Santa Cruz

Hidden in the lush greenery of Brgy. Bancuangan in Sta. Cruz, Kawa-Kawa Falls is a refreshing escape where nature has carved out its own version of a playground. Its name comes from its deep, cauldron-like basins—“kawa” meaning cauldron—natural pools that resemble giant kettles filled with clear, cool water. Families flock here for picnics, dips, and a quiet communion with nature.

Reaching Kawa-Kawa is easy: a short drive of less than two kilometers from the national road in Brgy. Landy leads to a simple bridge that serves as the entrance. From there, the sound of rushing water draws visitors into a landscape shaped by cascading streams and moss-covered rock formations.

What sets Kawa-Kawa Falls apart is that it isn’t just one waterfall—it’s a chain of mini-cascades, each with its own charm. Some are effortless to reach; others require a bit of climbing over slippery boulders, the kind of small adventure that makes the experience even more memorable. One downstream falls even intersects the main river perpendicularly, creating a beautiful collision of waters where photographers and nature lovers linger.

Look downstream from the entrance bridge and more cascades reveal themselves, each inviting exploration. Upstream or down, the entire area hums with the sound of fresh water dancing over stone.

Managed by the local government, Kawa-Kawa Falls has become a must-visit destination in Marinduque—standing proudly alongside Busay and Paadjao Falls as one of Santa Cruz’s most treasured natural attractions. Here, amid kettle-shaped pools and hidden cascades, visitors find not just a place to swim, but a place to slow down, breathe, and let nature take over.
