Immaculate Conception Parish in Boac, Marinduque

Rising atop the hill of Mataas na Bayan in the heart of Boac stands the iconic Boac Cathedral—one of Marinduque’s oldest and most treasured heritage landmarks. Officially known as the Immaculate Conception Parish Church, this centuries-old structure shelters the revered image of Mahal na Ina ng Biglang Awa, the beloved patroness of the province.

Built in 1792, the cathedral showcases classic earthquake baroque architecture, a testament to both artistry and resilience. Its massive stone walls, fortress-like layout, and elevated vantage point once provided refuge for the townspeople during the era of pirate raids. Today, these same features tell stories of a community bonded by courage, devotion, and unwavering faith.

More than just a place of worship, Boac Cathedral is a living chronicle—its façade, corridors, and sacred halls echoing over two centuries of Marinduqueño history. Recently recognized by the National Museum of the Philippines as an Important Cultural Property, the cathedral continues to stand as a proud symbol of identity, culture, and enduring spirituality for the people of Marinduque.
